HC Deb 20 April 1959 vol 604 c17W
96. Mr. Russell

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he is aware of reports that there is arsenic in the atmosphere in parts of Alperton, Wembley, near the factory of Messrs. Celotex Limited; what information he has about the nature of the fumes emitted front this factory; and what progress is being made with the erection of a chimney to disperse the fumes.

Mr. Bevins

No reports of arsenic have reached my right hon. Friend. I understand from the District Alkali Inspector, who has been giving informal advice, that the trouble seems to be caused by resinous vapours with an acrid smell. I understand that scrubbing the fumes with oil might well answer better than a tall stack, but that both solutions are still being considered.
