asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many school teachers and how many African graduates have been arrested in Nyasaland under the state of emergency.

pursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL RFPORT, 14th April, 1959: Vol. 603, c. 63], has supplied the following information

Thirty-one teachers have been arrested of whom 11 have since been released. Twelve graduates are held under detention orders.
