HC Deb 14 April 1959 vol 603 c72W
Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland from what persons or bodies he has had representations, during the past four years, regarding water supplies in the Isle of Barra.

Mr. Maclay

Apart from those made from time to time by the hon. Member, two representations have been received about water supplies in the Isle of Barra during the past four years. The first, which was handed locally on behalf of the district council to the then Secretary of State on 10th August, 1955, took the form of a letter and a petition both of which had been sent to the district council by the Reverend Malcolm MacKinnon, J.P., stressing the need for a public water supply in the south-eastern part of the island. A further letter dated 1st April, 1959, was received from Mr. MacKinnon, asking for certain information about water supply schemes in Barra and again emphasising the urgency of the scheme for South-Eastern Barra.
