HC Deb 14 April 1959 vol 603 c68W
76. Mr. Gough

asked the Paymaster-General whether he will make a statement on the proposed nuclear power station at Earnley.

Sir I. Horobin

I understand that the Central Electricity Generating Board proposes to investigate land at Earnley to ascertain whether it is technically suitable for a nuclear power station. If it should prove suitable the Board may in due course apply to my noble Friend for his consent to the construction of a station on the site. At that stage my noble Friend would consider any representations made to him by interested parties and if necessary order a public inquiry before deciding whether or not to give his consent.
