§ Mr. J. AmeryAn increase in the commutation rate was approved by the Legislative Council on 7th April, but is not expected to become effective until 1960. The proposal is based on the 1957 report by Mr. McDougall on the finances of the Fijian Administration, which recom-62W mended various measures for improving the financing of Fijian local government and raising more money for Fijian agricultural development and social services. The proposed increase in the commutation rate was approved by the Fijian Council of Chiefs and by all the Provincial Councils.
