§ Mr. Walker-SmithThe number of available staffed beds in National Health Service hospitals in England and Wales was about 462,000 at the end of 1951 and 477,000 at the end of 1958. I regret that information for 1946 is not available but the figure at the end of 1949 was 448,000.
