§ 74. Mrs. Mannasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how much has been given the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents for home safety work during 1958; and what approaches have been made to him regarding increasing the amount for 1959 and subsequent years.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerThe three-year period during which an annual grant of £1,500 was paid to the Royal Society for home safety work terminated at the end of the last financial year, and no provision has been made for any payment during the present year. The Society has made a request to me for a renewal of the grant at a higher level, and I have today written to the Society proposing, subject to Parliamentary approval, that a grant of up to £1,500 should be paid to it, for the year 1959–60 only, on conditions set out in the letter. In consultation with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland, I am also prepared to arrange for an additional amount of up to £1,500 to assist the Society in extending its work in Scotland and the North of England.
