§ Mr. Randallasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if his attention has been drawn to Recommendation 171, 1958, of the Consultative Assembly of the 39W Council of Europe and, in particular, to Recommendations 4 and 5; and if he will make a statement on his policy in this regard.
§ Mr. Ormsby-GoreWhile fully aware of the importance of European co-operation over refugee and over-population problems in Europe, Her Majesty's Government are convinced that these problems can best be dealt with by one or other of the existing agencies, whose work, they believe, is duplicated by the Resettlement Fund. They do not, therefore, propose to accede to the Fund as suggested in Part 4 of the Assembly's Recommendation 171. Since Her Majesty's Government are not a member of the Fund, Part 5 of the Recommendation does not directly concern them.
