HC Deb 13 November 1958 vol 595 cc63-4W
67. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what progress, to date, has been reached by Her Majesty's Government towards reaching agreement on the Cyprus problem; and on what points agreement has, and has not, been reached.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Her Majesty's Government's plan for Cyprus as announced on 19th June and modified on 15th August was accepted by the Turkish Government and the Turkish Cypriot community.

Her Majesty's Government regret that the Greek Government and the Greek Cypriots have not felt able to accept it. On the recent negotiations for a conference of all the interested parties, I have nothing to add to the statement by my right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary in the debate on the Address on 30th October and by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister during Question Time on 4th November and in his statement yesterday.
