HC Deb 12 November 1958 vol 595 cc55-6W
Sir W. Robson Brown

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will investigate all the circumstances in which the 16-year old Hungarian girl, Maria Soti, committed suicide in this country.

Mr. R. A. Butler

The finding of the Coroner's Court was that Maria Soti, who was then eighteen, died of asphyxia following carbon monoxide poisoning. While I have no jurisdiction in the matter and it would not appear to fall within my sphere of responsibility, I have been in touch with H.M. Coroner who has informed me that the reason for the girl's suicide may have been the receipt of news of her mother's death in Hungary.
