HC Deb 12 November 1958 vol 595 cc42-3W
85. Mr. Prentice

asked the Minister of Labour what progress has been made with the International Labour Organisation's survey on freedom of association; and what steps have been taken by the United Kingdom to co-operate with its work.

Mr. Iain Macleod

The Director-General of the International Labour Office announced in June that the Governments of the United States and of the U.S.S.R. had agreed to the survey being initiated by studies of the position in those countries. No further announcement has been made, but it is understood that the Director-General intends to present a progress report to the Governing Body of the I.L.O. when it meets next week. No approach in the matter has yet been made to the United Kingdom Government.
