HC Deb 07 November 1958 vol 594 c104W
Mr. Stones

asked the Minister of Labour the number of coloured people, of working age, at present in employment in the United Kingdom; and how many of these are unemployed and in receipt of unemployment benefit.

Mr. Iain Macleod

The information asked for in the first part of the hon. Member's question is not available. A count of unemployed Commonwealth Asian, African and West Indian workers registering at Employment Exchanges in Great Britain during the week beginning 28th July, last gave an estimated figure of 17,100. Of this total, just under 7,000 were in receipt of unemployment benefit.
