§ 85. Mr. Harold Daviesasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what modification of the policy of Her Majesty's Government, with regard to Quemoy and Matsu, has occurred since the Government statement of 15th February, 1956.
§ Mr. Ian HarveyThere has been no modification of the policy of Her Majesty's Government in this matter. As my right hon. and learned Friend made clear in the Foreign Affairs debate on 30th October, our position regarding these islands remains as explained in 1955, and repeated in the statement of 15th February, 1956, to which the hon. Member refers. At the same time we repudiate, now as in 1955, the use of force in any attempt to change the present de facto status of the islands.
