Mr. Ernest Daviesasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he will state the total of the revised capital investment programme now permitted to the British Transport Commission for the current year and 1959, respectively, and the amount to be allocated to British Railways in each case.
§ Mr. WatkinsonIn September, 1957, the British Transport Commission's capital investment programme was set at £170 million for 1958 and 1959. From these amounts £145 million was allocated to British Railways in each year. In May, 1958, the total was increased for the two years together, by an extra £25 million for British Railways. Consideration is now being given to the possibility of additional capital investment in 1959.
