HC Deb 05 November 1958 vol 594 c48W
26. Mr. Wingfield Digby

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what plans he has for improving the A.30 and A.303 roads to the far south west, in view of their inadequacy for the present volume of traffic in both winter and summer.

Mr. H. Watkinson

As a first step towards improving the route to the far south west, I have made the A.303 road between Dummer Down and Honiton a trunk road, because it will be easier to improve than the parallel length of A.30, which has now ceased to be a trunk road. Individual schemes for improving the route include the Staines By-pass, the construction of which is due to start next year, and by-passes for Andover, Amesbury, Honiton and Launceston, which are now being planned. Expenditure on smaller improvement schemes along the route is now running at a rate of about £200,000 a year.
