asked the Minister of Labour the latest figures of registered unemployed and short-time workers in the United Kingdom compared with a year ago.

At 15th September, 1958, the latest date for which figures are available, 452,145 persons were registered as wholly unemployed and 62,589 as temporarily stopped at employment exchanges in the United Kingdom. The corresponding figures for 16th September, 1957, were 289,428 and 9,002 respectively.
