HC Deb 04 November 1958 vol 594 c38W
85. Mr. Hale

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is now prepared to make provision for the payment of unemployment benefit on the premises at mills or factories where 50 or more persons are working not more than three days a week.

Mr. Iain Macleod

No. Such provision would be very expensive in operation and the diversion of staff to handle small groups of short-time workers would disrupt arrangements for dealing promptly with claimants attending Employment Exchanges.
