HC Deb 04 November 1958 vol 594 c27W
Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the present policy of Her Majesty's Government with regard to the proposed integration of Malta with Great Britain.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I would invite the hon. and learned Member's attention to the reply I gave at Question Time today to the hon. Member for Govan (Mr. Rankin) and my hon. Friend the Member for Haltemprice (Mr. Wall).

Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will make a statement on the issues now in dispute between Her Majesty's Government and the Government of Malta, indicating which issues have, and which have not, been resolved.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The issues outstanding with the late elected Government were explained in my statement on 25th March. That Government resigned in April and further discussions have been with the Governor. I announced on 31st July the measures that Her Majesty's Government had decided upon, in consultation with the Governor, to deal with the economic problems of Malta.
