HC Deb 04 November 1958 vol 594 cc36-7W
82. Mr. Mathew

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs how many non-established officers of the Consular Service are being released during the next twelve months; and what provision is being made either for gratuities or some payment in lieu of pension in those cases where service under the Foreign Office or in ancillary public service has exceeded a total of fifteen years.

Mr. Ian Harvey

Eighteen officers engaged on educational and cultural work at consular posts in Germany are to be released within the next twelve months. As many as possible of these will be offered re-employment by the British Council in Germany or elsewhere. Those who are not covered by the Teachers' Superannuation Scheme will receive such terminal benefits as they may be entitled to under the Superannuation Acts.
