§ Mr. Stonehouseasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what protests have been received against the compulsory labour schemes in the Kiambu district of Kenya.
§ Mr. Lennox-Boyd, pursuant to his reply [OFFICIAL REPORT, 15th April, 1958; Vol. 586, col. 19], supplied the following information:
While no protests specifically against the communal labour schemes in Kiambu district have been received locally, the powers of African District Councils generally in these matters were questioned in the Kenya Legislative Council on the 19th and 20th February. A copy of the proceedings is in the Library.
