HC Deb 09 May 1958 vol 587 c126W
Mr. de Freitas

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware of the strain on nurses working in mental hospitals; and when he will agree to these nurses working an 88 hour fortnight instead of the 96 hours as at present.

Mr. Walker-Smith

Yes. I received a letter from the Nurses and Midwives Whitley Council on 1st May recommending the introduction of an 88 hour fortnight for all hospital nursing staff as soon as circumstances permit. I am hoping to communicate with hospital authorities in the near future.
