§ 120. Mr. G. Jegerasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether he is aware of the anxiety in Gibraltar caused by the dismissal of a number of dockyard workers as redundant; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. T. G. D. GalbraithIn consequence of the general decline in the level of naval work it has been necessary to make some reductions in the labour force at Gibraltar Dockyard. Some 80 men who have reached, or will shortly reach, the age of 65 will be affected. Some further reductions may have to be made later on in the year. As to the long-term future, I would refer the hon. Member to my statement of 18th February, 1958, about the Royal Dockyards.
