§ 7. Mr. Stonehouseasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies under what conditions the Government of Tanganyika are prepared to permit the registration of the five new branches of the Tanganyika African National Union which have been refused registration.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydAttempts have been made in the past by certain branches of the Tanganyika African National Union to subvert the authority of the Central Government and of local Native Authorities. The Tanganyika Government, while not wishing in any way to obstruct the legitimate development of political organisations, will be prepared to register new branches only if it is satisfied that the individuals concerned and the local circumstances are such that registration would not involve the probability of similar threats to legally constituted authority.
