HC Deb 19 March 1958 vol 584 c135W
47. Mr. Hurd

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he will now say when the British Overseas Airways Corporation's service to South America will be restarted; and what will be the frequency of flights.

Mr. Watkinson

British Overseas Airways Corporation accepts the recent Survey Party's main conclusion that there is likely to be sufficient traffic in future to justify resumption of operations to Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Chile, although losses will initially be incurred.

Therefore, subject to its overall financial situation at the time, the Corporation intends to reopen the route to these countries as soon as sufficient aircraft capacity becomes available. This is not likely to be before some time next year.
