HC Deb 17 March 1958 vol 584 c104W
Sir R. Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what long-term plans there are for the operation of inter-island shipping services in the West Indies.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The Canadian Government have decided, subject to the approval of the Canadian Parliament, to provide the West Indies with a ship to be used in the inter-island service. Her Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom are most appreciative of this very generous offer, which has already been warmly welcomed by the Governor-General of the Federation.

In the light of this offer and of the working of the present interim arrangements to which my hon. Friend referred in his reply on 18th February, the West Indian Shipping Board will make recommendations later this year to the Federal Government about long-term plans for the service.
