Sir K. Joseph

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance whether the reciprocal agreement on social security with Yugoslavia is yet in force.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I am glad to be able to tell the House that the Social Security Convention with Yugoslavia which was signed on 24th May has now been ratified and will come into force on the 1st Setpember.

The Convention covers the benefits provided by the schemes of National Insurance, Industrial Injuries Insurance and Family Allowances in this country and the corresponding benefits in Yugoslavia.

In addition, medical benefits provided under the Yugoslav Health Insurance scheme will be available in Yugoslavia to all persons insured under the United Kingdom National Insurance scheme and their dependants. A certificate of British insurance for use in Yugoslavia can be obtained on application to the Ministry of Pensions and National Insurance. Overseas Group, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
