§ 67. Mr. Frank Allaunasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will reduce the interest on public works loans to local authorities for council house building, in view of the burdens it is placing on Little Hulton overspill tenants from Salford and others and also in view of the reductions in the Bank Rate.
§ 68 and 69. Mr. Beswickasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) if he is aware that whilst present rates of interest for loans from the Public Works Loan Board may be broadly in line with rates for similar loans available in the money market, a reduction in the rate charged by the Public Works Loan Board would influence the rates charged on the market; and if he will therefore now revise again the rates charged by the Public Works Loan Board;
(2) the special reasons why he has departed from his previous policy of maintaining a lower rate of interest for loans from the Public Works Loan Board for periods of more than fifteen years.
§ Mr. MaudlingI would refer the hon. Members to the reply that my right hon. Friend gave to the hon. Member for Uxbridge (Mr. Beswick) on 22nd July.
