Duncanasked the President of the Board of Trade in view of the fact that the total value of imported potatoes in the last four years was over £61 million, of which over £20 million worth was imported in the last six months, compared with an average for the years 1933 to 1939 of £2,250,000 worth, what steps he is taking to limit the amount of foreign exchange in respect of a commodity most of which could be produced at home.
