§ 66. Mr. J. Johnsonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware that 50,000 children in the urban areas of Northern Rhodesia cannot attend school; and what steps he is taking in this matter.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydThe Government of Northern Rhodesia tell me that this figure is about correct. They spend 2s. 6d. of every £1 available for public services on education of African children. The Copperbelt is getting a fair proportion of the increased educational facilities, but there has been a large rise in the number of children in the district.
