§ Mr. Walker-SmithThe total expenditure, actual and estimated, of regional hospital boards and boards of governors in England and Wales for the period 5th July, 1948, to 31st March, 1959, is £2,953 million. The further information requested is set out in the table below:

NOTES TO TABLE 1. In some Regions more than in others revenue expenditure is increased by the provision of services, at teaching or non-teaching hospitals, for persons from other Regions. No estimate is, however, available of the effect of this upon the figures. 2. In the course of the compilation of the above table, it has been found that information given in the Written Answer of 26th March, 1958 (columns 44 to 46 of the Official Report) requires some amendment in respect of the North West Metropolitan and South East Metropolitan Regions. Amended figures for those two Regions for the financial years 1952–53 to 1956–57 are given below: the latest information in respect of 1957–58 is included in the table above.
