§ Mr. Hornbyasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what would be the cost to the Inland Revenue in the current financial year if the earned income of married women was assessed for taxation separately from their husband's income.
§ Mr. SimonIf the earned income of a married woman were taxed as if it were, in all respects, the income of a single person, and the income of the husband were taxed as at present, the loss to the Revenue would be about £5 million.
