§ 80. Mr. J. Johnsonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will make a statement upon the constitutional position in Uganda following the boycott of the Uganda Legislative Council by the Buganda Electoral Council; and what steps he is taking in the matter.
§ Mr. ProfumoMy right hon. Friend deplores the refusal of the Buganda Electoral College to elect a member in the place of Dr. Muwazi who resigned from the Legislative Council last November. I sincerely hope that the Electoral College48W will decide to perform its prescribed constitutional function and that the vacant seat will be filled in the interests of the people of Buganda. In the meantime, the seat will remain vacant.
