HC Deb 21 January 1958 vol 580 c138W
Mr. Malcolm MacPherson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what evidence he has as to whether salmon poaching has increased or declined since the passing of the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries (Protection) (Scotland) Act, 1951.

Mr. Maclay

From 1952 to 1956 the average yearly number of convictions for offences against the Act was 189 whereas in 1949 and 1950 the numbers of convictions for corresponding offences were 390 and 322 respectively. These figures, I think, show that poaching has declined.
