HL Deb 21 January 1958 vol 207 c70WA
THE EARL OF AIRLIE

asked Her Majesty's Government if, in view of their unsatisfactory reply in the debate in this House on civil aviation on Wednesday, 11th December last, as far as Scotland is concerned, they will give an undertaking that the matter, as far as Scotland is concerned, is still under consideration, as there is undoubtedly a feeling of intense frustration in business circles in regard to this matter.

THE MINISTER WITHOUT PORTFOLIO (LORD MANCROFT)

Her Majesty's Government will certainly consider carefully the points made concerning Scotland during the debate on the 11th December. The runway requirements of large jet aircraft at Prestwick are being studied, and further necessary information is being sought from operators. No decision has been taken to abandon the airfield at Errol, but in the absence of some prospect of air services being provided to and from Errol the future of the site must obviously be reviewed. The future of the Highland and Island aerodromes is being considered in relation to the type of aircraft likely eventually to replace the aircraft at present in use; discussions in this connection are at present proceeding with B.E.A.

House adjourned at twenty-two minutes past six o'clock.
