§ 65. Mr. J. Harrisonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will recommend to the authorities of other prisons the practice, successfully used at Nottingham Prison, by which long-term serving prisoners with good conduct are permitted to work in local factories, visit friends, and wear ordinary clothing, thus making them accustomed to ordinary civilian life and thereby making it easier for them when ultimately released.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerYes. This system has been in operation for some time at two other prisons, and I have plans for extending it to a number of others in the financial year 1958–59.
