§ Mr. D. Priceasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is now the future liability in interest and principal on all external debt of the Government, additional to the United States and Canadian loans.
Mr. AmoryThe principal outstanding at 31st December, 1957, on loans to Her Majesty's Government involving repayment in currencies other than sterling, apart from the United States and Canadian loans, was £365 million. The amount of interest involved in future payments in respect of these debts is uncertain, depending upon the arrangements made for their discharge, but it is estimated that it will amount at least to £20 million.
