HC Deb 17 February 1958 vol 582 cc119-20W
Mr. Brockway

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if the definition of the word "child" in the Day Nurseries Ordinance, 1957, of Northern Rhodesia includes Asian and African children.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The definition of "child" in the Ordinance isa European person who has not attained the age of seven years. The Ordinance does not provide for the setting up of day nurseries but for the control and inspection of those set up by private persons for reward. When I received the Ordinance I inquired from the Governor about the introduction of comparable provisions for the control of any similar institutions for non-European children.
