§ 65. Mr. Mulleyasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware of the difficulty caused to university teachers and others, and the consequent detriment to research work of all kinds, by the early closing of the Reading Room in the British Museum; and if he will make arrangements for the resources of the library to be available in the evenings for those unable to use it during the day.
§ Mr. SimonLate opening of the Reading Room would involve a substantial increase in staff costs, which I could not sanction at the present time even if the Trustees were to recommend me to do so.
