§ Mr. Malcolm MacPhersonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many Africans hold appointments as assistant district officers in Tanganyika; and how many of these have passed the necessary examinations qualifying them to become magistrates.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydTwenty-nine of the present 30 Assistant District Officers are Africans and a further eight Africans are being appointed. Eight African Assistant District Officers have passed their law examinations and have been appointed magistrates. Seventeen officers took their law examinations recently but the results are not yet known.
