72. Mr. Stonehouse

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the amount to be spent on new prisons in Uganda during the current financial year; and the annual expenditure on the probation service.

Mr. Profumo

In the current financial year the estimated capital expenditure by the Protectorate and local Governments on new prisons and improvements to existing prisons is nearly £480,000. The estimated recurrent expenditure on probation and after-care services is over £15,000.
