§ 89. Mr. Awberyasked the Minister of Health if he is aware that spectacles for children are provided free under the 136W National Health Scheme but that parents have to pay 26s. for unsplinterable ones; and, in view of the greater danger to children using ordinary as against unsplinterable spectacles, if he will take steps to make unsplinterable glasses available free of cost under the National Health Service.
§ Mr. Walker-SmithSpectacles with unsplinterable lenses are provided without charge under the Hospital Eye Service if children need them on special clinical grounds. I am advised that the risk of injury from broken glasses is very slight in other cases.
