§ Mr. McLeavyasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement setting out the financial claims made to date by the United Kingdom and Egypt, respectively, in connection with the evacuation of the Suez Canal Base and the disposal of its contents, the seizure of the Canal and its nationalisation by Egypt, the blocking of the Canal and the cost of clearing it, the invasion of Egypt by British forces and the subsequent loss of life and the property resulting there-from, and the approximate net loss to the British taxpayer arising from all these events up to the present; and whether he will now state what progress has been made by Her Majesty's Government in negotiations to settle this matter.
