Mr. Osborneasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation what requests he has received from the Cunard company for a subsidy towards building ships to replace the Queen Mary and the Queen Elizabeth; and, since Italy has just launched the 32,500-ton liner Leonardo da Vinci to compete on the North American route, if he will make a statement on the Government's policy in regard to the replacement of the Queens by more modern ships.
