§ Mr. Malcolm MacMillanasked the Prime Minister in which localities in the Highlands and Islands measurements of the amounts of strontium 90 in human bones, in farm animals' bones, in soil, vegetation and milk, are being carried out systematically; and by whom.
§ The Prime MinisterMonitoring surveys are carried out under the direction of the Agricultural and Medical Research Councils on a country-wide basis. The sampling plan has been carefully designed to yield information applicable to all parts of the country, including the Highlands and Islands. Among the parts of this area from which materials for analysis of strontium 90 are drawn are Islay and the counties of Ross and Cromarty, Inverness-shire, Argyllshire and Dumbartonshire.
