HC Deb 10 December 1958 vol 597 cc72-3W
108. Mr. Swingler

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation why the preparations for the trunk road improvement scheme, from London Road to Milehouse Lane, Newcastle-under-Lyme, will not be completed before 1961; and if he will consult with the local highway authority with a view to speeding up these preparations.

Mr. Nugent

Schemes of this magnitude take a long time to prepare because of the amount of work involved in drawing up plans, contract documents, etc., as well as acquiring the necessary land and dealing with problems of rehousing. But I do not doubt that the borough council, acting as our agent authority, will complete the work as soon as practicable.
