HC Deb 10 December 1958 vol 597 c61W
72. Mr. Michael Noble

asked the Postmaster-General what is the total revenue to the Post Office from excess rentals for telephones outside the three- mile radius from post offices in the country; what percentage this is of total telephone rentals; and if he will apply to this problem the principle of equality which is accepted for almost all other Post Office services.

Mr. K. Thompson

£44,000 or rather less than 1 per cent. of total exchange rentals. The present charges do not cover our costs, and I do not think that the whole of the extra expense should be borne by the generality of telephone subscribers.
