§ 86. Mr. J. Johnsonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many secondary school places there are in Tanganyika; and whether all those students who wished to go there were able to be accommodated.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydApproximately 3,500 Africans, 7,500 Asians and 400 Europeans are receiving secondary education this year. Some of the Africans who wished to go to secondary schools could not be admitted because they failed either to reach the required standard or to pay the assessed fee. As a result 80 places of the total of 1,720 new places for Africans were unfilled at the beginning of 1958. Generally speaking all Asian and European children who wished to go to secondary schools gained places.
