HC Deb 09 December 1958 vol 597 c31W
88. Mr. Brockway

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what representations the trade union organisations of Cyprus have made regarding the suspension and dismissal of 4,200 Cypriot workers employed by the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes and the Royal Air Force in the Colony.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Three trade union federations, eight constituent unions and three local branches of U.K. organisations made representations to the Service authorities on the 12th November against the dismissals. Further representations seeking reinstatement were made to the Governor on the 4th and 26th November by a committee representing the federation and the U.K. organisations.

In addition, representations have been made by two United Kingdom Civil Service Unions at the War Office and the Air Ministry. Representations at the Air Ministry have also been made by a representative of the Pan Cyprian Federation of Labour.
