HC Deb 09 December 1958 vol 597 cc45-6W
121. Mr. E. L. Mallalieu

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his attention has been drawn to the gap in the criminal law, as a result of which it is possible for a person to receive goods knowing them to be the property of someone other than the person from whom he received them but who possessed them under a hire- purchase agreement, and yet not be guilty of an offence under Section 33 (1) of the Larceny Act, 1916; and what steps he will take to see that the law is made effective against dishonest receivers of goods improperly parted with by those who do not own them.

Mr. R. A. Butler

The law of larceny is defective in a number of respects, and I am considering what steps should be taken to revise it.
