HC Deb 09 December 1958 vol 597 c19W
58. Mr. Osborne

asked the Secretary to the Treasury if he is aware of the growing tendency amongst certain civil servants to send out personal letters under a stamped signature; and, since this is both dangerous and discourteous, if he will take steps to discourage it.

Mr. Simon

No. No general guidance has been given by the Treasury, and I am satisfied that the issue of any instructions on the point raised by the hon. Member ought to be left to individual Government Departments. If the hon. Member has any particular cases in mind, no doubt he will take them up with the Minister of the Department concerned.
